Al-Qaeda-linked forces clash with Saudi-backed checkpoint in Marib

Militants affiliated with al-Qaeda attacked a Saudi-backed checkpoint in Marib after losing logistical support.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Armed militants allegedly linked to al-Qaeda, under the leadership of Khaled al-Arada, carried out a retaliatory attack on Sunday targeting the al-Raka checkpoint, which is aligned with the Saudi-led coalition, in eastern Marib province.

According to a tribal source, the strike was focused near Bin Maili station and came in response to the coalition’s decision to halt food and fuel provisions for Khaled al-Arada’s forces. Khaled is the brother of Marib Governor Sultan al-Arada, who has reportedly been barred from reentering Yemen by Saudi authorities.

The militants, currently stationed in camps within the Wadi district, are reportedly facing severe supply shortages following the coalition’s withdrawal of support. They also accuse the coalition of involvement in covert operations that led to the deaths of their leaders.

In an effort to rebuild their strength, the group is seeking new means of support after losing political backing from the Islah party. Notably, Islah members were excluded from being recognized among the so-called “martyrs” of pro-coalition factions.
